How To Make New Friends

Bake them treats!

Well, this really isn’t baking, but if I turned on the oven and spent time doing something that involves chocolate… it’s baking.

I am going on a Youth and Government Conference in Raleigh today as an adviser for the media panel group. Even when you try to get away from politics, you are still in politics. I hear it is pretty cool though. It’s a model United Nations type deal where a large group of high school students come together and act out how a bill becomes a law. I might kind of be excited about it, but I kind of might not be. I thought I had left my radio row days behind me. Going to bed at 1:30 after late night media and being up at 5:30 to wake up a group of high school kids isn’t really my idea of a great Valentines day.

Anyways, since I have only been working at Jerry Long for one full week, and we are leaving for the conference on Valentines Day, I thought it would be nice/fun to make my group of advisers a treat for the road! This isn’t anything spectacular for many, but again, the fact I willingly turned on an oven merits a blog post.

Also, if you know what these are technically called please let me know. I call them pretzel Hershey kiss sandwiches. It works for now.

It’s really easy, but I am really proud of myself here for attempting to make friends without the use of sports and walking out of Target just buying 3 food items after trying on practically the entire Prabal collection.

All you need is some Hugs, Kisses and pretzel SNAPS!

Step 1:

Step 1: Lay out all pretzel snaps (in perfectly uniformed rows) on top of a cookie sheet wrapped in aluminum foil and then put Hugs & Kisses on top!

Step 2:

Bake in oven (set at 230 degrees or whatever low temperature you really want to) for a minute or two. As my dad says, “they are done when the chocolate gets shine.” He is right. A word to the wise, Hugs melt faster than Kisses. I would recommend doing a pan of Hugs and then a pan of Kisses.

Step 3:

Squish another pretzel snap on top of the Hugs & Kisses. Place in the fridge to cool.

Once they are all cooled down, peel them off the foil (some melt through, but it’s not big deal… it doesn’t stick at all) and placeĀ perfectly aligned in a Tupperware!

If you are like me and have brothers with grubby hands and a desire to eat and drink everything delicious you make and/or buy, leave them a note.

Don’t you like my families nerd-tastic library notes!?

And if you don’t like chocolate or pretzels or anything good in your life, just look at my dog smiling.
